Does Covid-19 Hit Men More Than Women?

Gender matters as much as patients’ age and previous diseases

On a TV program two days ago, I heard a new information that attracted my interest. Francesco Broccolo, Professor of Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology of the Department of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Milan Bicocca, was telling about the last statistical evidence supporting the fact that Covid19, aka Sars-CoV-2, aka Coronavirus, is infecting men in higher percentage than women.

This new data tickled my curiosity as I know there are also many female patients that got this aggressive virus. So, I decided to dig out more information about it to check its validity and know a bit more of the matter. Next, read what I found out.

The probability of not surviving is 65 percent higher in men, as Prof. Francesco Broccolo was saying. Related data showed up in a report presented by WHO (World Health Organization), in cooperation with Chinese scientists, in their Report of the Who-China Joint Mission on Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19)”, published last 28th February. It studies 55.924 laboratory-confirmed cases of people infected with the new Coronavirus.
