Hi, Harley, when I started my novel years ago, I definitely was a pantser. Then, I stopped at chapter 5 as I couldn’t figure out how to continue my story.

Then, exactly one year ago, I had a sudden illumination, and I’ve generally envisioned the genre and the main steps of my protagonist’s story. In fact, I’ve even realized that I had to write an entire trilogy.

Still, of these three planned novels, I know only the general architecture: my protagonist’s journey, main characters, and the story settings.

What I don’t know, yet, are the single incidents/conflicts/decisions that build and push the story forward. Actually, now, after the world has changed so drastically due to the terrible pandemic Covid19, I am pondering whether or not to include this new reality in my story. I fear that if I won’t, my novels will appear as old, epic or mythic stories of a distant and bygone golden age.

As you said, I enjoy to discover and explore where and how my story goes beyond my control and intentions. I’ve even decided to choose the title for each book when I will have finally finished each story.

So, to answer to your survey question, I guess I am a kind of a hybrid between a pantser and a plotter.
